Aprilia’s launched a Rally version of its Tuareg middleweight parallel-twin adventure bike, due to go on sale in Australia around mid-2025.
Building on the already excellent off-road capabilities of the standard Tuareg the Tuareg Rally is also close match for the competition version which has won the last two Italian moto rally titles and has also impressed in wider desert racing circles.
The off-road character of the Tuareg Rally is evidenced by a high mudguard and a new, thicker aluminium skid plate. Additional protection includes handguards with metal cores and, to improve off-road control, the seat is 20mm higher to make “transitions between seated and standing positions easier”. There’s also a taller handlebar.
The heavy-duty spoked wheels come with high-strength forged aluminium rims, while the KYB suspension remains the same as the standard model (with 240mm travel) but has constant rate springs instead of progressive. Aprilia admits comfort has been sacrificed for more control over rough terrain with the new springs.
The Tuareg Rally has a dedicated SC Project exhaust system, complete with a fully titanium silencer, which helps to reduce weight over the Tuarag by 5kg.
The Tuareg Rally has a race replica colour scheme, and also stands out with its gold-anodised forks, wheel rims and handlebars.
The Tuareg news at EICMA 2024 was not limited to the debut of the Rally version, with new styling and technical updates introduced alongside Euro 5+ compliance.
The 660cc engine now boasts 52mm throttle bodies, up from the previous 48mm, while the new rare-earth generator reduces inertia.
The headlamp cluster has a sleeker structure for a more streamlined appearance, and the Tuareg has two new liveries, both featuring a red-painted frame: Tornado Green and Hailstorm White.
Tuareg Rally-specific items, such as heavy-duty spoked wheels, a reinforced skid plate, and a chain guide, are now available as accessories for the Tuareg.
The catalogue also includes tyre pressure monitoring, and the comfort seat – available in three different heights – now incorporates heating elements.
