Suzuki pulled the covers off its new GSX-8R sportsbike at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan overnight. Based on the same chassis platform as the existing GSX-8S, it’s powered by the same 776cc parallel-twin and good for the same 82.9hp (61kW) and 78Nm at 8500rpm and 6800rpm respectively.
Features that separate the new 8R from the existing 8S is the use of clip-on ’bars over the one-piece handlebar of the nakedbike, which means the instrument, headlight and mirrors are now fairing mounted, which should result in lighter, more nimble steering.
As well as a two-way quickshifter as standard, the Suzuki GSX-8R gets three switchable ride modes, a four-tiered (including off) traction control system and Suzuki’s clutch-assist system, while the instrument panel is a five-inch full-colour TFT unit with switchable day and night modes.
Due to land in Australian dealerships in April next year, the Suzuki GSX-8S will be available in three colour schemes: Metallic Triton Blue, Pearl Ignite Yellow, and Metallic Matt Sword Silver.
The Suzuki GSX-8R will carry a ride-away price of $14,990 but any customer who pre-orders a bike before the April arrival date will receive a set of soft side panniers, valued at $889, at no extra cost.
