One month after the European launch of the 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid, the Japanese brand has announced a naked version in the 2024 Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid.
Virtually identical aside from the fairings, both machines combine the 451cc parallel-twin engine of the firm’s LAMS-approved Eliminator cruiser with a powerful electric motor, giving the rider the ability to use each power source independently or both at once for full effect. An e-boost function allows short bursts of maximum output.
Regardless of which source you select, power is transferred to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox that’s actuated by handlebar-mounted buttons rather than a conventional clutch-and-foot-lever setup. Or users also have the option to switch to an automatic transmission to let the bike take care of the gear changes.
The electric motor has a short range of just 12km and even then it’s at relatively low speeds, though there’s a ‘walk mode’ available which can be accessed when manoeuvring the bike around the shed or into parking spots.
Kawasaki hasn’t released a lot in the way of technical details, so we’re not sure of the final weight, nor do we know if there are any plans to introduce either bike into the Australian market in the near future.
