Kawasaki’s popular Ninja 400 sportsbike and Z400 nakedbike will next year be replaced by ‘500cc’ versions. While details of the bikes’ specifications are still very limited, the new powerplant is expected to be the 451cc parallel-twin unit currently found in the Kawasaki Eliminator cruiser, and which is also used as the internal-combustion engine employed in the firm’s Ninja 7 Hybrid and Z7 Hybrid.
Retaining the same chassis and running gear as the outgoing 400cc versions, the main changes are in the TFT display evident on the 500cc versions (which includes a USB-C charging port instead of the standard USB outlet on the 400s) as well as some obligatory styling updates. However, both bikes remain instantly recognisable as LAMS-approved offerings.
No word on Australian price or availability at this stage, but with very little new development having gone into the machines, we wouldn’t expect a significant increase over the current 400 pricing, which is $7263 (ride away) for the Z400 and $7413 (ride away) for the Ninja 400.
