Yamaha has announced the availability of two track-ready versions of its YZF-R6 supersport machine during the EICMA motorcycle expo in Milan, Italy, this week.
The higher-spec of the two is the GYTR version, or Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing, which comes fitted with a host of race-specific componentry from a racing wiring harness and ECU all the way through to a race stand and swingarm bobbins.

As well as lightweight race glass, the comprehensive list of 20 race parts includes a full Akrapovic exhaust system, a keyless fuel cap, adjustable rearsets, and a race chain and sprockets conversion kit.
The other version, dubbed the Yamaha YZF-R6 RACE, makes the R6 available as a lightweight track-ready version by stripping off all of the non-essential parts associated with meeting registration regulations. So instead of supplying the bike in race-ready form as the R6 GYTR does, the R6 RACE removes the non-essential kits such as lights, mirrors, the number-plate hanger and the features to accomodate a pillion, etc, giving would-be racers a blank canvas to build up as they wish.
The full list of parts included on the GYTR version is a GYTR race cowling set, Akrapovic full race system, ECU, wiring harness and interface cable as well as an on/off switch. There’s an AIS plug set, ABS emulator, keyless fuel cap and race seat, plus braided brake lines, rearsets, race-pattern shift kit, sprocket protector and front brake guard. The chain and sprocket conversion kit and race stand and associated hardware complete the comprehensive list.
UPDATE: Yamaha Motor Australia says it has no plans at present to bring the YZF-R6 GYTR to local dealers, while pricing and availability for the YZF-R6 RACE are yet to be announced.
