Suzuki’s Katana will benefit from the 2021 updates afforded to the firm’s GSX-S1000 last year, as the Japanese firm announces its 2022 line-up at this year’s EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan.
Originally based on the outgoing GSX-S platform, the update will now mean the new Katana will be Euro-5 compliant thanks to the changes made to the GSX-R1000 K5-derived engine powering the platform.
The tweaks to the engine, airbox and exhaust have extracted a fraction more power at a higher rpm as well as more torque chiming in earlier than before, which results in a wider spread of performance from what was an already versatile engine.

It inherits the GSX-S1000’s new traction control system (which has five levels of selectable intervention as well as off), the dash has received the new ‘night mode’ function, and there’s now a quickshifter as standard complete with auto-blipper.
The chassis, suspension and wheels are unchanged from the outgoing model, as is the familiar bodywork, however both this year’s black and the recognisable silver version will be dropped in place of two new colours: a new matte blue with gold wheels and a dark grey version with red wheels.
Suzuki Motorcycles Australia says the new 2022 Suzuki Katana is due to arrive in Australia in mid-2022 and will be available in Metallic Matte Stellar Blue only for a manufacturer's recommended retail price of $21,990 ride away.
Australian customers who pre-order one online through the Suzuki website will also receive a free set of heated handlebar grips, valued at $641.31.
