Royal Enfield has unveiled a concept at EICMA called the SG650 to showcase where the firm’s designs might be headed in the future. Based on the brand’s popular 650 platform, it mixes some futuristic innovation with the more traditional themes strongly associated with the Royal Enfield brand.
While details are still sparse, the concept boasts a chrome nacelle headlight unit which is reminiscent of a big-bore American cruiser, while the rear-end opts for a British bobber-style look. The SG650’s rims are machined from solid billet and runs integrated ABS, and the billet theme continues with the bike’s switch blocks – or cubes, as it calls them – and even the fuel tank.

“The key concept of transition is conveyed throughout the motorcycle; from the choice of aesthetic finishes, to the materials that we used,” said Royal Enfield’s group manager and lead for the SG650 Concept project Adrian Sellers. “From the heritage-inspired polished aluminium front end, flowing into the futuristic, digital graphic on the tank – this was about bringing the old and the new together and resulting in something timeless.”
bikesales spoke to a spokesperson at Urban Moto, the Australian importer for Royal Enfield who said they were expecting a 650cc version of the 350 Meteor to break cover – which it’s still likely to do – and even they were surprised by the unveiled concept.
Despite this, there’s a high chance the concept will appear in a more realistic production form in the not too distant future.
