Kawasaki unveiled its much rumoured supercharged sportstourer at the EICMA show in Milan this week, whipping the covers off both a standard and SE version of its 2018-model H2 SX.
It’s powered by a 998cc inline-four cylinder supercharged engine, it’s a long way from the performance hungry engine of the original H2, not needing to produce the kind of output figures of its brash brother.
Using a different style of supercharger, Kawasaki is claiming the H2 SX is still good for around 200hp, while offering excellent fuel efficiency and less emissions from an engine that’s not only 3kg lighter but also produces far less heat than its H2 counterpart for a more enjoyable touring experience.
The steel-trellis frame needed to be redesigned in order to accomodate a passenger, and the removable panniers and Kawasaki says the total payload of the bike is 195kg.
Electronics wise, the base model — which is available in only black — includes IMU-actuated corner brake control, traction and wheel lift control, engine brake control as well as ABS, switchable power modes and cruise control.
The higher-spec SE model gains launch control, a quickshifter, added side-mounted cornering lights and the brand’s first-ever full-colour TFT instrument panel. The green paint (and four extra kilos) is also exclusive to the SE model.
No word from Kawasaki Australia at this stage as to how much the H2 SX will set you back, or when it will land on Aussie shores.
