Honda has marked the 30th anniversary of the original Africa Twin with the unveiling of both an updated base model as well as a new Adventure Sports version at this year’s EICMA show in Milan.
The 2018 Africa Twin will benefit from the addition of a ride-by-throttle and the inclusion of four selectable engine modes, as well as tweaks to the engine, the intake and the exhaust which Honda says makes for improved response in the mid-range. Quoted peak power remains unchanged at 95hp, though.
The new-for-2018 Adventure Sports model, which Honda Australia has confirmed will form part of the Aussie line-up, gets a 5.4-litre boost to its fuel tank capacity, a bigger skid plate, longer travel suspension and higher ground clearance as a result.
There’s a quickshifter included on the manual models, as well as tweaks to the rpm shift points within sport mode of the dual clutch transmission (DCT) version. On top of this, it gets a taller seat and screen as well as higher handlebars and heated grips.
The three models available in Australia from next year are the Africa Twin manual with ABS, the Africa Twin Adventure Sports manual with ABS and the Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT with ABS.
Pricing is yet to be announced.
