Yamaha whipped the covers off a new YZF-R1-powered nakedbike overnight, topping off its rapidly growing MT range as well as creating a competitive contender in the popular supernaked category.
Marketed as the latest model in the firm’s 'Dark Side of Japan' series, the MT-10 is powered by a detuned version of the 999cc 2015 crossplane-crank YZF-R1 and benefits from the model’s anti-lock system, three-level traction control system, rider modes and slipper clutch.
The 2105 superbike’s frame and suspension also forms the base of the new supernaked albeit it with road-biased settings and rigidity.
The bike’s intended road use is highlighted by additions such as cruise control (available in the top three gears inly) and 12-volt power source, and the five-spoke cast aluminium wheels are shod with Bridgestone Hypersport tyres which the firm says were specifically developed for the model.
There’s an LCD instrument panel, the indicators, headlights and daytime running lights are all LED and a quick-shifter is available as an added extra.
Yamaha is keeping tight-lipped on the MT-10’s power and torque figures, but expect them to be competitive with the segment’s successful bikes.
