Yamaha’s MT-09 Tracer has joined what all of a sudden has become a cut-throat space – the middleweight road-based adventure market.
BMW (S 1000 XR), Triumph (Tiger 800 XR) and KTM (1050 Adventure) all unveiled their new product at EICMA, as well as Yamaha with the Tracer, based on the universally applauded platform that is the MT-09.
To that end, the Tracer should be a beautifully complaint all-rounder, and it will be chasing down the miles with the natural, easy and responsive 115hp, 87.5Nm 847cc triple.
To enhance its long distance potential, it has a larger 18-litre fuel tank, longer travel suspension (137mm on the front, 120mm at the rear), an upright seating position, 135mm ground clearance, and three-way height-adjustable windscreen.
Other features include “Tracer-specific” selectable running modes, a ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, height adjustable seat and mounting points for optional side cases.
Cast wheels are standard, although wire wheels may indeed be available as an accessory, as well as other bits and pieces to extend its off-road capability.
Yamaha Motor Australia hasn’t yet announced its plans for the MT-09 Tracer.
