Fifteen years after the first Brutale broke cover, MV Agusta has made significant changes to the Brutale 800 and used the Milan motorcycle show to unveil it.
Motivated by the need to comply with the Euro4 emission standards which come into force in 2017, the Brutale’s exhaust system is overhauled and undisclosed engine modifications made. The changes result in a reduction in top-end power (116hp down from 125hp) but is made up for by a hike in the triple-cylinder’s torque output which the firm claims is up by a considerable 25 percent.
As well as some considerable cosmetic updates, other goodies on the 2016 Brutale 800 include a bi-directional quickshifter, a hydraulically operated slipper clutch, selectable engine maps and an eight-level traction control system.
Handling has been improved by way of a shorter wheelbase (1420mm down to 1400mm) and the trail has been increased by 8.5mm.
MV Agusta also took the EICMA opportunity to whip the covers of the Dragster RR built in collaboration — just how much we don't know— with Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton. Limited to 244 units, the Dragster RR LH44 gets a special paint scheme, a swag of carbon fibre bits and bears the world champ’s name and race number on a few of the components.
