EICMA 2015: Ducati 959 Panigale, Hypermotard and Hyperstrada

More cubes for Ducati's mid-sized Panigale and Hyper range, and we'll start seeing them on local roads in January 2016

Ducati announced capacity increases for its middleweight Panigale, Hypermotard and Hyperstrada models in Milan overnight taking the total of new model reveals to five.

The firm’s 899 Panigale will be replaced by the 959 Panigale which tips the scales at 200kg ready-to-ride and boasts a power output of 157hp (115.5kW) and 106Nm. The bike will go on sale in January 2016, in red or white, with price yet to be announced.

The 955cc is the first of the Superquadro platform to meet the tough new Euro4 homologation and, like its predecessor, is mounted in a monocoque chassis. Suspension is by the way of Showa’s BPF adjustable fork matched to a fully-adjustable Sachs set-up at the rear within a double-sided swingarm.

Electronically similar to the 899 in replaces, the 959 features a three-level Bosch anti-lock braking system, and eight-level traction control, engine braking control, three rider modes (Race, Sport and Wet) as well as a quickshifter.

The firm’s Hypermotard, the Hypermotard SP and the Hyperstrada also benefit from increased capacity for 2016 will all bikes are powered by a 937cc version of the liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° engine. The Euro4-compliant engine is said to be good for 113hp (84.3kW), up from 109hp (82kW) of its predecessor, as well as a 10 percent hike in torque output.

The SP version is lighter thanks to Marchesini wheels and it’s suspended on Ohlins compared to the Sachs set-up on the standard bike. The Hyperstrada sees the addition of a windshield and panniers as well as slightly revised ergonomics for longer-distance riding.

Availability is from February 2016 with pricing as follows: red $17,790, white $17,990, SP $21,990, and the Hyperstada – available as order only – will  be $21,990.
