The new F 800 R is the latest incarnation of the bike that was originally launched in 2009.
Power is sourced, as before, from a liquid-cooled four-valve twin-cylinder engine with 798cc displacement. With output increasing to 90hp (66kW) at 8000rpm (up from 87hp) and shorter ratios for first and second gear, BMW says the parallel twin offers even greater sprinting ability while retaining the impressive pulling power from the previous model. Peak torque remains 86Nm at 5800rpm.
The new F 800 R also has new suspension components and "optimised ergonomics". An upside-down fork now takes care of front suspension duties, while a twin-disc front brakes with radial callipers provide the stopping power.
There's also a lower seat height (790mm instead of 800mm), combined with new handlebars and rider footpegs.
The look of the F 800 R has also come in for a bit of a makeover, with a newly designed fairing, radiator shrouds, front mudguard and wheels, plus a new range of colours. The now symmetrical main headlight also gives it a distinctive 'face'.
In keeping with the "Safety 360°" principle, the new F 800 R is fitted with ABS as standard, and it can also be ordered with optional systems such as stability control and electronic suspension adjustment.
It will go on sale in February 2015, with price still to be announced.
