EICMA 2013: Speedmaster and America

The British bikes, so long the warriors of Triumph's classically styled cruiser range, have received some fresh attention for the 2014 model year

While new additions to the Thunderbird cruiser range have been the big-ticket Triumph reveals at the 2013 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, the company has also presented styling updates to the Speedmaster and America 865cc parallel twins.

Changes to the Speedmaster include:

  • Machined detail on engine barrel block and cylinder head cooling fins;
  • Black headlight bowl and bezel;
  • Black handlebars, wheels and rear sprocket;
  • Black anodised handlebar finishers with machined ridge detail;
  • Black brake pedal, gear pedal and control plates;
  • Black RSU springs and rear mudguard rails;
  • Black airbox cover, battery strap and oil cooler lines; and
  • New silencers with improved tone.

With its 270-degree firing order and twin slash cut pipes -- re-engineered for 2014 -- the fuel-injected unit delivers 61hp and 72Nm.
The look is dominated by the 19-inch cast aluminium front wheel with single disc brake and 'skinny' tyre, and a whole host of components -- from wheels to bars and headlights to foot controls -- get the black treatment for 2014.

The Speedmaster has a 690mm seat height which. To complete the look, the bikes sports blacked-out engine cases, a teardrop tank, minimalist mudguards, a 15-inch cast rear wheel and a small single headlight design.

The colour options are Phantom Black or Matt Graphite with twin Matt Black centre stripes.

AMERICA
Changes for 2014:

  • Machined detail on engine barrel block and cylinder head cooling fins;
  • Chrome clutch cover embellishment and chrome chain guard;
  • Polished battery cover;
  • Addition of rider footboards with larger brake pedal and heel/toe gearshift;
  • Rubber fuel tank knee pads;
  • Solid black oil cooler lines;
  • New silencers with improved tone; and
  • New red-on-red two tone paint scheme.

The America offers the most accessible entry point into Triumph's cruiser range. It has 16 and 15-inch wheels, a deeply valanced front mudguard, pulled back handlebars and feet forward controls -- now with rider footboards and a heel/toe shift as standard - for a traditional low and laid back cruiser look.

There’s a 690mm seat height, and a 250kg wet weight. The America’s 865cc engine produces the same performance figures as the Speedmaster.

Liveries are Metallic Phantom Black or Cinder Red/Morello Red.

Availability still hasn’t been announced by Triumph Australia.
