Wisconsin-based EBR Motorcycles is closing down, the company has announced in a statement. The announcement comes just weeks after Polaris announced it was dropping Victory from its business.
Production will begin to wind down almost immediately for EBR (Erik Buell Racing), just one year after EBR was acquired by Liquid Asset Partners at auction for $A2.9m.
EBR says its decision was "based primarily on EBR facing significant headwinds with signing new dealers, which is a key to sales and growth for a new company".
The statement continued: "In addition, EBR has had limited production in 2016 and 2017 that was under goal. The combination of slow sales and industry announcements of other major OEM brands closing or cutting production only magnified the challenges faced by EBR."
The company will continue to honour warranties and provide technical and parts support to current dealers and riders who bought motorcycles manufactured by EBR.
A sale of production equipment and excess parts will start in March 2017.
All has been quiet on the EBR front since the company launched its 2017 line-up in September 2016 – the 1190RX sportsbike, 1190SX naked and the Black Lightning, an "accelerated" version of the 1190 platform.
