American marque EBR, borne out of the remnants of Buell when it was jettisoned by Harley-Davidson in 2009, has revealed that it has three new models in the final stages of development: a café racer, streetfighter and adventure bike.
The trio will all be powered by the 1190cc V-twin is found in the company’s 1190RX sportsbike, which is forming the basis of EBR’s maiden entry into the Superbike World Championship and is now on sale in Australia.
The streetfighter will be the first of the new models to see the light of day, and is expected to be launched in July/August, 2014, followed by the adventure bike in the first quarter of 2015. A timeline for the café racer hasn’t yet been revealed.
The last ‘adventure sportsbike’ with the Buell name in it was the popular 1200cc Ulysses (pictured), which was launched in 2005 and based around the scalpel-like XB12 series of machines – but with far more rangier geometry. It quickly became a cult machine, as much for its back-road sportstouring capabilities as its off-road prowess.
The new adventure bike from EBR is expected to be cut from an entirely different cloth than the Ulysses, and it’ll certainly have some bite. The 1190RX produces 138Nm and 185hp, and we’d expect top end will be sacrificed in adventure guise for an even meatier mid-range.
EBR now employs 143 people at its Wisconsin head office and production facilities. On July 1, 2013 Hero MotoCorp, the Indian motorcycle giant, acquired a 49.2 per cent stake in the company for $US25 million .
