For those waiting to get a slice of the adventure bike market via EBR’s upcoming 1190AX, there’s still going to be quite a wait.
The company’s Vice President of Global Sales, Gary Pietruszewski, has confirmed in an interview with www.autoevolution.com that the AX is indeed in the pipeline, but nothing is firm at this stage.
“The AX is still in our product plans, we haven’t gotten to that point yet, but it’s going to be designed as a combination of street and some off-road riding,” Pietruszewski was quoted as saying to autoevolution.
“It won’t be in 2015. So far the focus is on middleweights and the low-cc.”
The AX will be powered by the same 1190cc V-twin as found in the RX superbike and SX nakedbike, but we’re not sure if it will be in the full-house 138Nm and 185hp state of tune or softened in adventure guise.
With its tarmac-focus, cast wheels will be standard fare, the suspension will have plenty of travel, and traction control will be a part of the electronics package.
Beyond that, it’s pure conjecture at what level spec the AX will be, in reference to windshields, protective equipment, panniers, etc. There’s no doubt it’s entering a hot market against some real heavyweights, so perhaps holding off for a year or two to really fine-tune the product won’t be such a bad thing.
