Victoria Police says it's putting "motorcycle safety" up the top of its priority list this Easter, and will be specifically targeting motorcyclists at accident hotspots across the state.
The campaign, which is a part of the nation-wide Operation Crossroads, will see all manner of police vehicles -- including police road bikes, police off-road bikes and 4WDs -- patrolling "high road-trauma" areas, plus parts of the state popular with off-road riders, including Mansfield, Noojee, Erica, Walhalla, Kinglake, Toolangi and Tallarook.
Motorcycle police will be focusing on licencing, registration, alcohol and driving behaviour offences, while Highway Patrol officers will target riders travelling to and from known motorcyle destinations.
According to Operation Crossroads Commander, Superintendent Neville Taylor, this Easter campaign is just the first of many: "Our Easter operation is the first of many large-scale operations police will be running as part of Operation Crossroads," he said. "Easter is a high-risk time, particularly for motorcycle trauma, with many people using holidays and good weather to get out on the bike. We encourage that but encourage people to do so safely," he added.
Victoria Police also said that mobile speed cameras will be operating in high road-trauma areas across the state.
