Former MotoGP racer Marco Melandri and enduro champion Davide Guarneri will headline the inaugural FIM E-X Bike World Cup race in Italy on Saturday, August 17.
The pair – like most elite motorsport competitors – use electric bikes as part of their training, so racing the machines is a natural evolution.
They will compete in the EXB2 class, which limits powered assistance to a 250W motor that can’t provide more than 25km/h of propulsion.

The race format is 25 minutes plus one lap of the motocross track in Imola.
E-bike competition is still in its infancy, to the point where the FIM and the Union Cyclist International are still arguing over who has jurisdiction over the machines, given the are both motorcycle and pushbike.
The race will be live streamed on Facebook and on the mxgp website.
