Ducati wirelessly integrated airbag

A world first for the Italian firm, fitted to the Multistrada and based on an “intelligent passive safety system”. The airbag deployment takes just 45 milliseconds

Ducati has broken new ground, wirelessly integrating a production motorcycle – in this case the Multistrada – with an airbag jacket.

The ‘Multistrada D-Air’ features a fully integrated, intelligent system of sensors wirelessly connected to the Ducati airbag jacket, which is manufactured by Dainese.

The system uses sensors built into the Multistrada’s existing electronics to constantly analyse the vehicle’s ‘dynamic’ situation, and the airbag is deployed only when subjected to a “genuine accident scenario”. The Multistrada D-Air system completes the data analysis and airbag deployment inside both the rider and passenger jackets in just 45 milliseconds.

More information on the Ducati Multistrada D-Air® will be released on April 15, and the new Multistrada model will be available in European Ducati dealerships from May 2014 onwards.

Australian availability is yet to be established.
