The world's largest motorcycle manufacturer, Hero Motors, will supply components to produce gearboxes for Ducati's future – as yet unspecified – models, the Indian-based company has said.
The Indian company released the statement following an order its transmission division received from Ducati, describing the new business as a "win".
"With this win, we are not only forging a strong relationship with a global two-wheeler leader but also reaffirming Hero's proficiency and expertise in specialised manufacturing," Hero Group chairman and managing director, Pankaj Munjal, said.
"This is definitely a big leap for us and we are quite excited about this new development."
Ducati is the latest in a growing number of motorcycle manufacturers to source componentry from the group, with the likes of BMW and Harley-Davidson using the firm's transmission division to source gearbox components.
According to Hero, almost 80 per cent of its supply business is made up of what it calls global players such as Ducati, Harley-Davidson and BMW. It has already invested significantly in its infrastructure and says there are plans to increase the set-up in a bid to cope with an increased demand from the international market.
