Ducati Scrambler to star in new Matrix Resurrections flick

Neo and Trinity are ready to re-enter the Matrix, and they'll have a Ducati Scrambler 1100 Pro to help them

The Ducati Scrambler will feature in the upcoming film The Matrix Resurrections, continuing the long-running relationship between the Italian brand and the popular sci-fi franchise.

Starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss, Resurrections is the latest entry into the Matrix series and comes 18 years after the original trilogy ended.

The series tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world that is run by artificial intelligence, and where mankind is trapped in a virtual reality world called the Matrix.

A Ducati 996 prominently featured in 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded, with Moss’s character Trinity famously piloting the machine in the now-iconic freeway car chase scene.

The filmmakers constructed a faux freeway to film the scene which, at the time, was considered revolutionary thanks to its eye-watering $2.5 million cost and its massive scale. It was allegedly the first time in cinema history that an entire freeway had been constructed for a movie.

Following the success of Reloaded, Ducati released a limited run of special-edition 998 (which had since replaced the 996) models that were complete with a dark-green livery and Matrix decals. One of these limited models ended up in the hands of Reeves, the film’s lead actor.

Reeves is a passionate motorcyclist and co-founder of ARCH Motorcycles. In an ARCH YouTube video, he states that despite Moss’s famous Ducati scene, she had never actually ridden a motorcycle before.

For Resurrections, Ducati has supplied what appears to be a Scrambler 1100 Pro. The bike can be seen in the trailer for the film, with Moss (likely a stunt double) once again at the controls.

The 1079cc L-twin machine is the biggest model in the Scrambler range and was first revealed in August 2020. It produces figures of 63.3kW at 7250rpm and 90.5Nm at 4750rpm.

The Matrix Resurrections hits Australian cinemas on Boxing Day, 2022.
