Ducati North America recently announced sales growth of 61 percent for the second quarter of 2011 -- and 63 percent for year-to-date sales -- over the corresponding periods for 2010.
The figures take into account the total sales for the US, Canadian and Mexican markets, and are attributed to the registration of over 5200 machines.
The upswing is welcome news indeed for the distributor, which suffered a steep decline in sales in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis. Four models in particular are said to be spearheading Ducati's surge in North America, with the Multistrada and new Diavel power cruiser joining the 848 Evo and Monster 796 as the marque's strongest sellers.
Cristiano Silei, Ducati North America's CEO, said even stronger results were to come. "We are very satisfied with our half-year results, which represent exceptional growth over 2010," he said. "We are extremely excited about our potential for the rest of 2011, with the Monster 1100 Evo joining our formidable product line-up as summer hits full swing. In light of this continued success we will be strengthening our organisation for the 2012 model year," he added.
The result should also be greeted with some optimism by Australia's Ducati distributor, NF Importers. Some 651 new Ducatis were sold in Australia over the first half of 2011, just two units less than for the same period last year. While the figure has essentially held steady, it's a solid improvement on the corresponding figure of 12 months ago - the first half of 2010 saw a contraction of 24.1 per cent over the first half of 2009. Here the top selling Ducati model is the 1098/1198 Superbike, with a combined figure of 122 sales over the first half this year, followed by the Multistrada 1200 (pictured) with 104 sales.
