If Jesus rode a motorcycle, what would he ride? Probably a Ducati, whose generosity to the Roman Catholic church is making headlines.
The Italian motorcycle company donated a pair of Ducati Multistrada 1200s to Pope Benedict XVI, which were delivered to his summer home at Castel Gandolfo.
The bikes are for the Papal guards, or the Vatican gendarmerie if you will, and as such have been finished in the official yellow and white livery of the Vatican, the same colour that can be seen on its official flag.
Ducati's CEO Gabriele Del Torchio was on hand to personally give the keys to the Pope, an audience that normally costs a lot more than a pair of motorcycles.
Fitted with plenty of divine Italian gear, including Brembo brakes and Marzocchi forks, the Ducati Multistrada 1200 pumps out 150 hp (110kW) at 9250rpm and 119Nm at 7500rpm, giving them enough power to streak through busy Italian traffic should the need arise.
The Papal Multistradas are expected to escort the Pope on official functions and may or may not be used to fast track lunch deliveries when the Pope is famished.
