Ducati meets Fiat

In what at first might sound like a marriage created in hell, Ducati's top-line 999R Testastretta V-twin is about to make it on to four wheels, in the shape of a Fiat 500 Bambino.

No, this isn't some mechanical suicide pact - it's a scheme dreamed up by British (yes, British…) custom car-maker Hartham.

The arguably deranged individuals concerned are matching the 150-horse bike engine to a car that is built from the ground up from the latest materials and billed as a mini Ferrari. Its body is carbon-fibre fixed to a tub made from carbon sheeting wrapped over alloy honeycomb, all of which is fixed to an FIA-spec roll cage constructed from chrome-moly tube.

Hartham claims the machine - called the F500 -- will be good for a 4sec 0-100km/h time, while the machine will be speed-limited to 200km/h. See www.F500.co.uk.
