Ducati expands XDiavel range

Italian maker adds sporty XDiavel Black Star and sinister XDiavel Dark to 2021 power cruiser line-up

The new 2021 Ducati XDiavel Black Star and 2021 Ducati XDiavel Dark bring the Italian manufacturer's XDiavel range to three machines for the new model year, the newcomers slotting in either side of the Ducati XDiavel S.

The trio are powered by a Euro5 version of Ducati's Testastretta DVT V-twin, a 1262cc unit that produces claimed maximum outputs of 160hp at 9500rpm and a tarmac-tearing 127Nm at 5000rpm.

That's a lift in performance of 8hp and 2Nm, while Ducati describes the engine as now having a "smoother" delivery curve.

Both the XDiavel Dark and XDiavel Black Star weigh 221kg (dry), while the XDiavel S weighs 223kg (dry). All three see the Testrastretta DVT engine slung from a tubular steel trellis frame.

The Ducati XDiavel is very similar to the brand's straight Diavel family: they all fall under the banner of 'power cruiser', but the XDiavel has slightly more relaxed rider ergonomics.

The 2021 Ducati XDiavel Dark then is the new entry point to the XDiavel family – not that many would equate the term 'entry level' with a near $30k price tag ($29,390 ride away)!

The model adopts a similar aesthetic to the many 'Dark' Ducati models before it, with a matt black colour scheme enhanced with abundant black finishes and components.

"The XDiavel Dark represents purity, essentiality, and gateway to the XDiavel world," states a Ducati press release.

The Ducati XDiavel S continues in 2021, albeit with the extra punch of the Euro5 engine, and is priced at $36,100 ride away, leaving the new Ducati XDiavel Black Star as the new flagship of the range.

Priced at $37,590 ride away, the XDiavel Black Star features a matt grey and black colour scheme with vivid red highlights, including the cylinder head covers and a stripe on either side of the tank.

The high-spec variant also comes with high-grip suede seat fabric and forged rims.

The XDiavel family benefits from full LED lighting (with daytime running lights on S and Black Star variants), a Bosch IMU with cornering ABS and traction control, and launch control. The XDiavel S and Black Star also receive 3.5-inch TFT instrumentation and a multimedia system.

Three different accessory packs will be available for 2021 Ducati XDiavel models: Sport, Touring, and Urban. The Sport pack comprises a forward-set handlebar, handlebar caps, fuel tank cap and forged aluminium rim set.

The Touring pack comprises a comfort rider seat, magnetic tank bag and Roadster windshield.

And the Urban pack comprises an aluminium sprocket cover, aluminium frame caps, aluminium handlebar counterweights, brake lever, clutch lever, and dedicated Ducati Performance anti-theft device.

The 2021 Ducati XDiavel range is expected to reach Aussie dealerships in the first half of 2021.
