Ducati Australia partners with DesmoSport superbike team

After recently entering the Australian market as a fully-owned subsidiary, Ducati has partnered with Troy Bayliss and his DesmoSport team

Ducati Australia will partner with DesmoSport Ducati for the 2020 Australian Superbike Championship, reaffirming the brands strong commitment to racing.

With Ducati recently becoming a fully-owned subsidiary in Australia, the timing was right for the company to throw its full factory weight behind DesmoSport, the race team led by Troy Bayliss.

Ducati’s support of Australian riders is nothing new with the likes of Bayliss, Troy Corser, Casey Stoner and now Jack Miller all having represented the Italian manufacturer in an official capacity.

The DesmoSport Ducati team was formed in 2016 by former World Superbike Champion, Bayliss, and former Australian Superbike racer, Ben Henry. The team, based on the Gold Coast, has had a tight relationship with Ducati, but the company’s official arrival in Australia reinforces the partnership.

“My relationship with Ducati is strong,” said Bayliss. “The brand, along with the family in Borgo Panigale, have supported me throughout my career and I am excited to once again partner with them for the season ahead.”

New Ducati Australia Managing Director Sergi Canovas was equally thrilled by the partnership. “We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Troy as we support the DesmoSport Ducati Team,” he said. “As we prepare to enter the Australian market with the fully owned corporate subsidiary, we are proud to partner with those that share our passion for the brand and the race track.”

The DesmoSport Ducati team are the defending Australian Superbike champions with Mike Jones triumphing aboard the 1299 Panigale R. When racing resumes, the team will attempt to defend its title with the Ducati Panigale V4 R.
