As the world of motorcycle customising continues to dig its creative talons forever deeper into an endless ocean of models, from the mundane to the exotic (expect a Hyosung GT250R dirt-tracker any day now), what we have for you today is another great example of unorthodox modification.
This is the Ducati 999 Testastretta beach racer, built by New Zealand mob Haldane Motorcycles. It costs $NZ12,000 ($9700) and looks the business.
The recipe? Step one, take a second-hand Ducati 999 (the one used here if from 2003), which we've seen listed on our websites for as little as $13K, then strip off the fairing, add some crash bars and off-road tyres and voila, the ultimate BMW GS killer.
Well, there's a bit more to it than that. It features a fully adjustable Nemesis race ECU, which is front-mounted with the battery case and waterproofed, a custom wiring loom, MX top-clamp and bars, a custom race exhaust system, and modified rear 17-inch rear wheel with 150-section knobbly tyre.
With more street-cred than your average off-roader, the Ducati 999 Testastretta Beach Racer custom also features a quick action throttle, which is ideal for a motorcycle that can reach speeds of 220km/h on the open beach.
