Ducati unveiled its latest Superbike weaponry in Milan on November 4, with the 1198 to replace the 1098 in standard and up-spec S guises, and there's also a limited-edition Troy Bayliss 1098R to celebrate the legacy of the now retired three-time world champion.
Even though the 1998 looks virtually identical to the 1098, Ducati claims it's a totally new bike, drawing on technology derived from Bayliss's 2008 championship-winning bike.
The 1198 produces a claimed 170hp (125kW) and 127NM from its Testastretta Evoluzione L-twin engine, and has a dry weight of 171kg, while the 1198S has the same engine spec, but is 2kg lighter.
The 1098S now also has traction control as standard, as does the 1098R.
The latter's engine -- already 1198cc before the latest round of unveilings - is good for a claimed 180hp, and weighs in at a whippet-like 165kg.
The 1098R hasn't been unveiled in true '1198' guise yet - if that makes sense.
Meanwhile, just 500 of the Bayliss-liveried replicas will be made and, although local demand will undoubtedly be strong, Australian numbers are likely to be quite low.
Pricing for all the bikes is still to be announced.
