The world has lost one of its true speed freaks – American Bill Warner.
The 44-year-old paid the ultimate price after crashing at a venue -- the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine -- where he became one of the fastest men on two wheels in 2011, delivering a 502.027km/h (311.945mph) pass on a turbo-charged Suzuki Hayabusa.
Just two days ago, on July 14, he tried to break that previous record of 311.945mph on a mile long strip, but lost control of the 650hp, 268kg Hayabusa and veered off towards the right side of the track and crashed. Afterwards, he was still conscious and talking, but died about an hour and 15 minutes later.
RIP Bill Warner.
