Australia’s Jason Doyle finished second in the 2018 Speedway Grand Prix final in Slovenia on September 8, lifting himself back up to eighth in the championship.
Doyle finished behind Pole Patryk Dudek and ahead of American Greg Hancock and Dane Fredrik Lindgren in the Krsko final, but finished the program as the leading points scorer on 17.
It was Doyle’s first rostrum in the 2018 SGP season, which has been a challenging one for the New South Welshman as he sought to become the first a back-to-back world champion since Dane Nicki Pedersen in 2007-08.
“It’s a massive honour to make a podium. It has been a tough year to dig deep and try to find the performance we had last year,” said Doyle.
“We have really struggled, I guess with ourselves, nothing to do with the equipment. We just needed to make a lot of changes.
“After the world title last year, things have changed. I have a big target on my back. So it’s nice to finally get that trophy this year and hopefully it will be the start of me staying in the top eight.”
Doyle’s compatriot Chris Holder finished seventh in Slovenia, with his night ending in the opening semi-final.
Holder is 12th in the championship.
