Doyle delivers in speedway opener

The opening round of the 2014 Australian Speedway Championship saw Jason Doyle put on a stirring display, with his gating a feature of his standout performance

Jason Doyle triumphed in the opening round of the 2014 Australian Speedway Championship at Kurri Kurri on January 4, winning the A final ahead of 2012 world champion Chris Holder, Cameron Woodward and Troy Batchelor.

It was a stylish performance from Doyle, who mixed finesse with muscle to come out on top of his more fancied rival in Holder, who is just making his return to competition after a massive crash in the UK last year.

Doyle was only defeated once during the evening, and that was in first heat when he was outdone by teenager Jack Holder.

Josh Grajczonek was fifth overall, ahead of Jack Holder, Sam Masters and Max Fricke. For full results, click here.

Round two will be held at Undera, near Shepparton (Vic), on Wednesday, January 8.
