Doyle continues stellar form

Well on his way to his first Australian Speedway Championship after claiming the honours in round two
Jason Doyle took another stride towards his first Australian Speedway Championship after completing back-to-back victories with a Mildura master class on Monday, January 5.
The New South Wales racer topped the heat standings on 13pts, before heading 2012 world champion Chris Holder, Justin Sedgmen and B Final winner Tyson Nelson in the A Final.
The victory netted the Newcastle-born racer an extra 4pts, extending his championship total to 35 and putting him seven clear of nearest rival Sedgmen with rounds at Undera on Wednesday (January 7) and Doyle’s local track Kurri Kurri on Saturday (January 10) still to come.
Holder enjoyed a far better evening, storming straight into the A Final on 12pts after only just scraping into the semi at Gillman. But he will have to get past Sedgmen first to mount a challenge for top spot after the Edinburgh racer also charged to 12pts and added another two for third place in the final. Coupled with the 14pts and second place he recorded at Gillman, he is runner-up overall on 28.
Nelson enjoyed a superb meeting, recording two wins and two seconds, but an exclusion denied him a shot at automatic A Final qualification, meaning he had to win the last-chance race ahead of Josh Grajczonek, Max Fricke and Sam Masters, who all tied on 10pts with him.
Holder’s younger brother Jack fell just short of the B Final on a useful nine, while Aussie international Dakota North accrued eight. Rohan Tungate was unable to continue his stellar Gillman form, recording two wins and a frustrating three exclusions to end up on six.
