Jack Doohan, the son of five-time 500cc Grand Prix world champ Mick Doohan, has claimed his second Australian karting title in dominant fashion, claiming honours in three of the four rounds of the KA2 category.
The 13-year-old had done enough to take the title on day one of the final round's two-day event two weekends ago, eight months after telling reporters, "I wouldn't just take it as a learning year, I also want to try and win."
With his long-term aspirations set firmly on one day racing a Formula One car, the youngster has named Formula One legend Michael Schumacher and Aussie V8 Supercar driver James Courtney among his heroes, as well as his hugely successful father who attends all of Jack's racing events.
When asked about his son's F1 dreams before the opening round of the 2016 championship this year, the former world champ told Fox Sports, "He's just 13. I won't blow his bubble and I'll try to support him as much as he can. Hopefully he'll take up basketball – it will be a lot cheaper!"
Mick Doohan, now 51, was the given the opportunity to test a Formula One car back in 1998 following his fourth consecutive world title. He drove a Williams FW19 at the Catalunya Circuit with varied success.
"I respect the Formula One drivers," he said at the time. "Driving the Winfield Williams, even for a few laps, told me it is not as easy as they make it look."
