The world Superbike and MotoGP championships are set to benefit from a radical transformation of the Donington Park circuit in central England.
Donington, which replaces Silverstone as the home of the British F1 GP from 2010, has just been given the official nod from the North West Leicestershire District Council for a $213m makeover, which will see the track extended, as well as the creation of a new pit and paddock complex, and media and medical centres.
During phase one, suites will also be built at three of the circuit's most famous curves: Redgate, Starkeys and Craner.
The owner, Simon Gillett, plans to raise capital for the project via a debenture scheme, and he has 17 months to complete the works before the F1 caravan arrives in town.
Donington is also the home of the British Motorcycle Grand Prix, while the world Superbike title also reunited with the circuit in 2008 for the first time since the early '90s.
