Dirt-ready 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE revealed

Suzuki has announced a significant update to its popular V-Strom 1050 platform, with more off-road capability at the top of the list.

The new 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE adds a 21-inch wire-spoked front wheel, off-road friendly traction control, and switchable ABS at the rear.

Effectively replacing the current V-Strom 1050XT, the DE version also offers a number of differences compared to the base V-Strom 1050, including a longer wheelbase, wider handlebars, steel footpegs, less aggressive steering geometry, a stronger drive chain, solid-mount seat, aluminium engine protection, new front fender and a standard-equipment protection bar.

In addition, the 1050DE also has longer suspension travel and more ground clearance than its sibling, and a smoke sports windscreen for maximum visibility.

All of these features add up to a machine that is more capable in off-road scenarios than its predecessor, with Suzuki targeting competitors such as Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Triumph, BMW and Ducati – all of which offer dirt-road friendly adventure models.

The base 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050, which prioritises long-distance comfort, packs 19-inch front and 17-inch rear cast aluminium wheels, as well as a height-adjustable seat and screen.

Both V-Strom models feature a bi-directional quick shifter, a five-inch TFT screen, updated cruise control, updated ride-by-wire throttle, and revised rations for the first and sixth gears. There is also new LED lighting and USB and 12V charging points.

In the electronics department, the V-Strom range brings the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS), which includes multiple ride modes, an easy start system, low RPM assist, combined braking system, and hill hold control.

The 1037cc 90-degree V-twin engine is carried over from the 1050XT and still puts out 79kW and 100Nm, but now has hollow sodium-filled exhaust valves to help reduce combustion chamber temperatures.

The base 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 will check in with a price tag of $22,990 ride away and will be offered in Metallic Reflective Blue/Metallic Matte Black.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE will come in three colour ways – Champion Yellow/Metallic Matte Sword Silver, Pearl Vigor Blue/Pearl Brilliant White and Glass Sparkle Black/Metallic Matte Black – and will carry a price tag of $24,690 ride away.

Suzuki will also offer a range of accessories including hard luggage, heated grips, a tank bag, mirror extensions, fog lamps, protection foil, frame protection, and larger footrests.

The Japanese brand is also offering a special online pre-order deal for Australia customers, with 1050DE buyers receiving a free aluminium luggage kit (including a top box and panniers), and 1050 buyers receiving an aluminium top box.

Both machines are expected to hit Australian dealerships in March 2023.
