Desert racing star Callum Norton signs with Sherco for 2022 Finke and Hattah

Top-five Finke finisher Callum Norton joins the Motul Pirelli Sherco Race Team

The Sherco off-road team has announced a huge signing, with Victorian star Callum Norton joining Jonte Reynders and Tim Coleman on the roster for 2022.

Norton, who hails from Lorne on Victoria’s Surf Coast, will race in the Australian Off-Road Championships, as well as the Finke Desert Race and the Hattah Desert Race.

The former KTM and Husqvarna rider excelled in motocross as a junior before turning his attention to off-road racing. In particular, he has become a regular front-runner in Australia’s two key desert races – Finke and Hattah.

He has finished fifth at Finke on two occasions, while he also nabbed a podium at Hattah in 2021. Many have picked him as a potential future winner at Finke, with some comparing his physical build and riding style to two-time Dakar champion, Toby Price.

Norton will certainly give Sherco a strong competitive edge in the major off-road races in 2022, and the small brand could find itself challenging the more established teams like KTM and Husqvarna.

“I’m really excited to make the switch to Sherco in 2022,” said Norton. “I’ve kept a close eye on the Sherco riders over the last few years, and I’ve been impressed. The bikes have been fast and solid, and they’ve always got to the finish line.

“The challenge of the AORC is one that I’m also relishing as well. I’ve lived near the bush all my life but as a junior I was more into motocross than enduro. That’s changed now, and I’m looking forward to making the most of this immense opportunity.”

The Victorian rider will pilot a 500 SEF Factory at Finke and Hattah, as well as a 450 SEF Factory at the AORC rounds.

Meanwhile, Reynders will join Norton in the AORC and also at Hattah, while Coleman will compete in the Australian Hard Enduro Championships following his recovery health scare due to heat stroke.
