Defending champion claims SX opener

American Justin Brayton was imperious as the 2019 Australian Supercross Championship got underway in Brisbane

The 2019 Australian Supercross Championship kicked off inside the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday, October 12, with American Justin Brayton (Honda) beginning his title defence in empathic fashion.

Brayton produced a perfect 1-1- scorecard in the two 10-lap SX1 main events to win the overall ahead of Yamaha teammates Dan Reardon and Luke Clout.

“We had a good night tonight; the Penrite Honda felt great all day and we’re pumped – it’s always important to leave round one on a high note,” said Brayton.

“Luckily we had the indoor venue for today – I love the vibe of indoor racing – but of course because the weather was a little ominous too.”

Brayton leads the championship on 25 points, with Reardon on 22, Clout 20, Brett Metcalfe (Honda, 18) and Dylan Long (Kawasaki, 16).

Meanwhile, American Jacob Hayes (Yamaha) was the SX2 winner ahead of Aaron Tanti (Yamaha) and Chris Blose (Honda).
