The 2006 poll, voted on by 15 magazines around the globe, including Australian Motorcycle News (AMCN), saw the Daytona 675 cut a swathe, scoring 26 votes, ahead of Yamaha's YZF-R6 (11) and the Kawasaki ZX-14 (9).
Six magazines - AMCN, Motorwereld (out of Belgium), Cycle Canada, KicXstart (Holland), Moto Motorcycle Magazine (Russia) and Cycle World (USA) -- awarded the Daytona 675 maximum votes (three) in IBOTY, while another four publications gave it two votes. In all, 10 of the periodicals gave the Daytona 675 at least one vote.
It is Triumph's first victory in IBOTY, which commenced in 1985.
"It's been an amazing couple of months for the 675," said the managing director of Triumph Australia, Steve Chiodo. "IBOTY holds a lot of cachet, so we are humbled that the Daytona 675 has prevailed in the face of such stern opposition."
The Daytona 675 was announced as the IBOTY winner in the current issue of AMCN, and the full feature will appear in the Christmas issue of the magazine, which goes on sale on December 13. The Daytona 675 sells for $14,890 (plus ORC).
