Ducati factory rider Chaz Davies claimed a resounding double win in round nine of the 2015 Superbike World Championship at Laguna Seca on July 19, snapping Kawasaki's 10-race winning streak in the process.
Davies won both races from Kawasaki teamsters Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea around the legendary 3.61km circuit in northern California, and jumped up to third in the championship at the expense of fellow Briton Leon Haslam (Aprilia).
Davies wins were Ducati's 11 and 12th at Laguna Seca.
“I’m really, really happy with these results, and we’ve definitely seen the fruits of our labour here," said Davies. "The track here perhaps limits our weak points and plays to our strengths, and we were able to put together two really good races that went almost exactly to plan."
In race one, Davies was never headed en route to his sixth WSBK win, winning by 1.798s. Meanwhile, Rea and Davies pushed each other to limit throughout, while Davide Giugliano (Ducati) finished a lonely fourth after regrouping from a poor start. Jordi
Torres (Aprilia) was fifth, while Alex Lowes (Suzuki) inherited sixth after Leon Haslam (Aprilia) slid out of contention, with reigning champion Sylvain Guintoli (Honda) seventh ahead of teammate Michael van der Mark. Haslam was 13th after nursing the Aprilia to the finish.
In race two, Davies was closely followed in the early stages by Sykes and Rea, but he eventually got the job done again in a carbon copy result from race one. Torres and Haslam were fourth and fifth from Ayrton Badovini (BMW), who had earlier failed to finish race one.
The next round of the championship place in Sepang, Malaysia from July 31 until August 2.
