Date change for 2011 Aussie SBK title

The round in WA, a support event to V8 Supercars, has been brought forward a week, while Yamaha announces its back on the scene

A revision has been made to the 2011 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) calendar due to a date change in the V8 Supercar event at Barbagallo (WA).

The round has now been brought forward week and will be held from April 29-May 1. The 2011 calendar is as follows:

1. 25-27 February, Phillip Island, Vic (world Superbike)
2. 4-6 March, Symmons Plains, Tas
3. 14-17 April, Hidden Valley, NT
4. 29 April-1 May, Barbagallo Raceway, WA (V8 Supercars)
5. 3-5 June, Queensland Raceway, Qld.
6. 19-21 August, Queensland Raceway (V8 Supercars)
7. 11-13 November, Symmons Plains (V8 Supercars)
8. 18-20 November, Phillip Island

In 2011, the class previously known as Superstock 1000 will be rebranded as Prostock. The class will compete on its own at four standalone rounds (two, three, five and eight). At the world Superbike and V8 Supercar rounds, Prostock will race alongside Superbike.

The other 2011 ASBK classes will be Superbike, Supersport, Superstock 600, Superlites (125GP and 250 Mono) and Superside (Sidecars).

Entries are now open for the championship, which will have over $120,000 in prizemoney and contingencies, plus over $100,000 in subsidies to support riders and teams travelling to events.

Meanwhile, the powerful Yamaha Racing Team has just announced that it’s returning to ASBK action in 2011, and will field a Supersport team with riders Kev Curtain and Rick Olson.

That’s in addition to Honda’s recent announcement that it’s officially returning to the Superbike class with Wayne Maxwell and Jamie Stauffer, while Suzuki is yet to announce its second Superbike rider to campaign alongside Troy Herfoss.
