Daniel Sanders has secured the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship title and continued his unbeaten run with a win in Portugal.
The Australian was dominant in Portugal on his Red Bull KTM 450 Rally, winning the prologue and three of the five stages to put the championship beyond doubt with one round to spare.
Sanders edged out Honda’s Toscha Schareina and KTM teammate Luciano Benavides for the victory in Portugal. Another KTM rider, Edgar Canet, finished fifth in the race, giving KTM three places in the top five.
The victory for Sanders comes after his career-first win at the Dakar Rally in January, as well as rally-raid wins in Abu Dhabi and South Africa.
He is just the second Australia to win the title after Toby Price won in 2018, when the series was called the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship.
“It’s a dream come true to win the world championship,” said Sanders. “You think about it when you’re a kid no matter what sport you do, but I chose motorbikes, and it worked out really well.”
“It’s very rare to have this sort of consistency in rally as it’s often so unpredictable. But up to now, we’ve put in a perfect season, and we’ll still be aiming to carry that into (the last round) in Morrocco.”
The final round of the World Rally-Raid Championship is the Rallye du Maroc in Morrocco. It is scheduled for October 10-17.
