On a ninth stage of the 2014 Dakar Rally dominated by the sand, KTM’s Marc Coma made his mark and reinforced his lead in the general standings.
His 23rd stage victory saw him complete the 422km journey one minute and 21 seconds (1:21) ahead of Joan Barreda (Honda), with defending champion Cyril Despres (Yamaha, 5:28) third ahead of Juan Pedrero Garcia (Sherco, 8:43) and Stefan Svitko (KTM, 9:42). A special mention goes to multiple world women’s moto trials world champion, Laia Sanz (Honda), who recorded a fantastic ninth best time of the day.
In the overall standings, Coma is 40 minutes in front of Barreda and one hour and 40 minutes ahead of third-placed Jordi Viladoms (KTM).
