Cyclone board tracker fetches $775K

The motorcycle once owned by Steve McQueen was the big attraction at the EJ Cole auction, and a Harley Strap Single also joined in the world record fun

As predicted in a news story last week, the just completed EJ Cole auction in Las Vegas has caused a major stir – and realignment -- in the motorcycle collectible market, with the two highest prices at the auction both world records: $775,000 for a 1915 Cyclone Board Track Racer, and $650,000 for a 1907 Harley-Davidson strap tank single.

Both results were well over predictions, with the tip four bikes at EJ Cole completed by a 1911 Flying Merkel Twin Racer ($385,000) and a 1942 Crocker ($350,000). In all, 28 bikes sold for over $100,000.

According to Gizmag.com, the top three prices ever fetched at auction are now held by American motorcycles, and its analysis of the top 250 motorcycles sold at auction reveals that of the top 100 40 are British and 46 are American.
