Cyclists go into pedal for bushfire victims

Another huge two-wheel event

If you're riding a motorcycle through the mountains north of Melbourne this weekend, don't be alarmed to see a throng of 1500 cyclists in your travels.

That's because it's the cycling fraternity's turn to raise money for the victims of the horrendous bushfires on Black Saturday, with the relief ride to start from Marysville, and travel through Buxton, Taggerty, Alexandra, Eildon and Thornton before terminating at Lake Mountain Resort.

Twenty-five dollars from each entry will be donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund, and the event will also bring many visitors into the area. The ambassador for the event is five-time Olympian Shane Kelly, OAM.

"It is an honour to be the event ambassador and it's great to see cycling playing a part in helping the fire affected communities recover and rebuild," Kelly said.

On April 5, motorcyclists raised $40,000 for the bushfire victims in Ride for the Hills, which went from St Kilda to Whittlesea. For more information on that event, click here.
