Cycle News closes its doors

The American weekly, for so long an institution in motorcycle racing circles, is no longer after shutting down the presses

America has lost its motorcycle racing bible, Cycle News, bringing an end to a rich chapter in two-wheel journalism.

After 40 years, Cycle News pulled up stumps on August 31, with the weekly magazine seemingly a victim of not being able to develop a model to keep pace with the on-line publishing world and its 24-hour news and feature cycle - most of it free.

America was also hit hard by the GFC, which undoubtedly had a massive impact on copy sales.

Until recently, Paul Carruthers, the son of Australian world 250 GP champion Kel, was the Editor-in-Chief at Cycle News, a position he had held for many years.
