Yamaha has launched an updated CRUX model called the Rev, the company's "first strategic model for Africa".
The "basic street model" houses miserly Yamaha's Blue Core 110cc, four-stroke air-cooled engine, has a flat seat and board-style tandem foot rests comfortable, and practicality is a focus with a rear carrier and "suspension to support heavy loads". Two configurations are available: a spoke wheel specification with kickstart, and a cast wheel specification with electric start.
It will be released in Afruican countries from April 2017, followed Central America and the Caribbean.
According to Yamaha, the African and Central America/Caribbean motorcycle markets total roughly 3.6 million units (2016 results/Yamaha Motor survey). Approximately half of the bikes sold are in the 100-150cc motorcycle bracket, which are used as bike taxis.
Price will be around the $US900 mark.
The current CRUX model (110cc) was originally developed for India, and was introduced in Africa and Central America/the Caribbean in the early 2000s.
