Crusty Demon to attempt world record

Seth Enslow will be in Sydney in early March to try and break a 1999 long distance jump on an H-D bike

Crusty Demons of Dirt legend Seth Enslow will be heading to Australia in March to break a world record. But not just any old record -- a record once held by Evel Knievel.

Freestyle motocross rider Seth Enslow has chosen Barangaroo, East Darling Harbour Waterfront in Sydney in his attempt to break the long distance world record for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, an homage to Evel Knievel's 1975 jump.

The current record is held by Bubba Blackwell, which was 47.85m (157ft) set in 1999, Las Vegas.

As the press statement for the record attempt explains, "The recent introduction of the XR1200 to the Harley-Davidson family, a bike reminiscent of the XR750 made famous by Evel Knievel, has prompted a new generation of rebels eager to not only honour Knievel’s legendary status but get one-up on him."

With the Sydney Harbour bridge as a backdrop, the world record attempt is expected to attract plenty of media attention, and is also a convenient way for Enslow and his crew to promote the two upcoming Crusty Demons of Dirt tours in Australia, which include the Thirst 4 Destruction Tour of major cities later in 2010 and the Beyond the Apocalypse regional tour that kicks off in late March.

Seth Enslow is confident of smashing Bubba Blackwell's record of 47.85m on an H-D motorcycle, but we'll wait until 9:30am on Tuesday March 2nd to see if he makes history.
