Crump back in form

Was only bested by American statesman Greg Hancock at the latest world speedway round in Denmark, with Crump's compatriot Chris Holder fourth
Australian Jason Crump has kept alive his chances of finishing in the top three of the Speedway World Championship for a 10th successive year after finishing second at round nine in Denmark on September 10.
Crump had to give way to the championship’s elder statesman, American Greg Hancock, in the Vojens final, but he’s now moved back up to fourth in the standings on 96pts, with Andreas Jonsson (100) and Jaroslaw Hampel (108) now in his sights over the final two rounds.
“It’s been a while since I have been on the podium and it’s good to be back,” said an elated Crump. “I've have had an average year by my standards so this has given me the boost I need and with two rounds to go, I am looking for a top three finish as second and third are not that far ahead of me.
“It’s not over yet but Greg (Hancock) deserves the World title this year; he has been on fire.  My dad and Peter Johns have prepared some motors for me and we have been trying a few new settings with some positive results, so finishing the season strong and finishing second or third will be my main priority.”
Meanwhile, Hancock laid one hand on the world championship trophy, extending his advantage at the top of the standings to a mammoth 31.
If he leaves the Croatian round on September 24 with a lead of 25pts or more, he will lift the championship trophy for the second time at the final round in Poland on October 8.
Hancock produced some astonishing speed out of the first corners and quickly left runner-up Crump for dead in the final. Swedish star Fredrik Lindgren won a superb scrap with Australian champion Chris Holder for third place.
“It’s a good thing that I’ve got those points, but I’m keeping the same focus,” said Hancock. “I’m not thinking about what’s going on behind me; I’m just thinking about chasing the world title. You’ve got to score points to win it, so I’m going to keep scoring points.”
Hancock produced one of the moves of the night in heat 15, when he bulldozed Crump aside on turn four.
He said: “I tried to make the best of the situation. I saw an open door and I had to go for it. I had the speed. Jason is a great racer and I knew that he would run me hard, but there is a big level of trust we have between each other. I’m grateful to race against him.”
